Source Production is proud to offer a Radiation Safety Officer training course. The course is designed to meet the requirements of the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 10, Part 34, “Licenses for Radiography and Radiation Safety Requirements for Radiographic Operation including Appendix A.

Course Information

Objective: The purpose of this program is to fully acquaint the user with the potential hazards of radiation and the accepted means of adequate protection to all concerned. The frame work and guidance offered by the prevailing rules will be presented in great detail. Nondestructive testing nomenclature and explanation of commonly used symbols are discussed with their specific meanings.

Upon successful completion of this course the attendee will be able to:

  • Understand Radiation Safety, Biological Effects of Ionizing Radiation and Radiation Protection guides
  • Understand Radiation Physics and its inter-relationship with matter.
  • Have an understanding of the requirements of t he Nuclear Regulatory Commission for Radiography technicians.

Course Hours: 8 a.m – 5 p.m CT, includes an hour for lunch.

Basic Schedule: Morning classroom lectures and afternoon laboratory exercises.

Attire: Casual, suitable for movement during laboratory exercises and layers for classroom (in case of hot or cold). Louisiana has varying weather, please be prepared for seasonal changes and inclement weather.

What to bring to class: Students should bring issued dosimetry  (issued-dosimetry will be available for those who don’t have issued dosimeters or an OSL/film badge)

Parking: SPEC has limited parking. Many hotels in below list offer shuttles to SPEC and/or in walking distance.

Other Amenities: Fridge and Microwave are available for use if you choose to bring lunch items.

Location Information
SPEC is located in James Business Park off US Highway 61 (Airline Hwy), just west of the New Orleans International Airport.  SPEC occupies both buildings at 113 and 119 Teal Street. Parking is available in between both buildings. The training facility is upstairs at 119 Teal Street building and entrance is at front of building along the street.

Taxi from airport – Go to Taxi booth downstairs (outside baggage claim).
Ask the Taxi coordinator for a SHORT HAUL taxi.
If going to SPEC or Holiday Inn: Tell taxi driver to go 1 mile West on Hwy 61 (Airline Hwy) to James Business Park.Enter James Business Park and then turn right to Holiday Inn, or go three blocks North to 113 Teal Street (SPEC). Approximate cost is $24
